Goal
By getting students out of their seats, moving around, and performing, they will remember what they do and have fun learning about a difficult topic to understand. This will carry over into their interpretation of Shakespeare's work and the Elizabethan era, improving their reading comprehension and confidence.
What will be done with my students
Using performance activities, students will get to have a hands-on approach to Shakespeare's work so that they understand it and remember it.
Gulfshore Playhouse Education and ThinkTheatre staff will lead a 50-minute interdisciplinary workshop, consisting of eight sessions, for a classroom composed of 9th grade students. This educational theatre workshop focuses on the works of William Shakespeare, going over Elizabethan history and how actors approach his plays.
Benefits to my students
Students will be more engaged in class. This will foster a love of learning. They will gain confidence because they will be able to understand Shakespeare. This will improve their reading comprehension and understanding of conflicting character perspectives. Also, they will learn how to compare and analyze universal themes. These are very difficult topics to master when only reading. The performance aspect will make this a lasting learning memory.
Budget Narrative
The project costs $1200 per class. There are 3 classes for a total of $$3600. Additional grant money and donations will be used to pay for total amount.
