Students in grades 3-5 will use Anglegs to support understanding and proficiency with the BEST Standards Geometry benchmarks.

The Florida BEST Math Standards have 6 geometry standards for 3rd grade, 5 geometry standards for 4th grade, and 1 geometry standard for 5th grade which requires students to classify triangles or quadrilaterals into different categories based on shared defining attributes.

Anglegs would be used as a concrete manipulative to help students deepen their understanding of these difficult learning goals therefore increasing achievement as well as allow children to practice the difficult academic vocabulary in context using concrete objects.

Goal

Students in grades 3-5 will use Anglegs to support understanding and proficiency with the BEST Standards Geometry benchmarks.

The Florida BEST Math Standards have 6 geometry standards for 3rd grade, 5 geometry standards for 4th grade, and 1 geometry standard for 5th grade which requires students to classify triangles or quadrilaterals into different categories based on shared defining attributes.

What will be done with my students

Each classroom will have enough Anglegs so groups of 4 students could work together to create polygons and solve increasingly complex problems in a visual manner. These activities would occur daily during instruction of the Geometry units and could also be used as small group center activities as a spiral review.

Benefits to my students

Students will have a concrete visual that has moveable parts to help them understand how line segments work to form angles and how angles define polygons. Anglegs will allow teachers to pose increasing complex questions such as: Using your angles construct a polygon that has 1 pair of parallel sides. Name this shape and measure the angles. What do you notice about the angles?

Anglegs are adaptable and can be used successfully with students from grade K-5. However, the intent of this grant is to build student capacity and achievement gains in Geometry for students in grades 3-5.

Budget Narrative

Anglegs cost approximately $12.00 per set of 72 (at the time of writing the price on amazon ranged from $9.11-$12.00 per bag). Currently we have 231 students enrolled in grades 3-5. Therefore we would need 58 bags to allow groups of 4 to share.
