Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 25

Thank you for funding this grant to help provide accommodation(s) for students with exceptionalities. The learning tools increased independent functioning skills to participate in the academic curriculum. The variety of pencil grips were beneficial to students to promote proper hand positioning on the pencil. Students loved being able to choose which one felt the best for them along with the most functional for their needs. The Legiliners helped students be independent with adding lines to blank response fields to assist with spatial awareness and legibility.  The variety of pencils and markers provided students with options to choose a fun tool to complete their writing tasks. The spacing sticks helped students leave adequate spaces between words. The sensory stones and sensory strips helped students who needed a quiet fidget attend to classroom instruction. The slant boards helped students who required a different writing surface to increase strength and stability when writing. The adaptive writing paper and tools assisted students in efforts to increase readability of written work. The noise canceling headphones helped students with auditory defensiveness participate in the classroom without the distraction of aversive sounds. All of the tools funded by this grant impacted the lives of students with exceptionalities in order to make progress and achieve academic success.

What will be done with my students

Students learn in a variety of ways. Each student has individual needs and may require accommodations to assist with his or her learning. This grant will help support students with special needs by providing a variety of learning tools to support differentiated instruction. The students will be provided with the tools to support handwriting needs, sensory needs and/or self-regulation needs.

Benefits to my students

Students with exceptionalities will benefit from the opportunity to select from a variety of learning tools to assist them with accessing the curriculum. The tools include aides to help with handwriting legibility and proper mechanics. For example, the Legiliners will add lines quickly to blank response fields in workbooks and graphic organizers. The pencil grips will help ensure proper hand positioning on the pencil. The spacing sticks will help provide a visual and physical cue to leave adequate space between words. The other tools are for sensory needs which will benefit the student by providing strategies to self-regulate and be ready for classroom instruction. These learning tools will benefit students by providing accommodations to help them achieve their goals.
