Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 28

We are very grateful for the Champions of Learning grant received this school year, which has had a remarkable impact on our 4th-grade students. With your support, we have been able to integrate OSMO games into our curriculum, significantly enhancing our students' learning experiences in mathematics and critical thinking.

The OSMO games provided my students a engaging colloborative experience. Using these games has made mathematics more accessible and enjoyable, allowing them to practice essential skills in a fun and interactive way.

One great example of this positive impact was seen during a recent math unit where students used the OSMO Pizza Co. game. While managing their virtual pizza restaurant, they learned about fractions, addition, and subtraction as they calculated the ingredients and prices for their pizzas. This real-world application not only made the math concepts more tangible but also sparked a collaborative spirit as students worked together to achieve their goals.

Furthermore, the OSMO games promote confidence in our students, as they can learn at their own pace and feel a sense of accomplishment with each challenge they overcome. The growth in their mathematical understanding is evident, but equally important is the way they are developing critical thinking skills using the Detective Agency and other games that will benefit them across all subjects.  Of particular importance was the confidence that our ESL students had with the games.  It allowed them to go at their own pace while learnng english.

Benefits to my students

OSMO is an awarding winning institution that designs and develops learning games for elementary age students.
It provides math and language skills through gamification which improves students' skills in literacy. These games improve students' critical thinking, math and language skills, and supports collaborative learning.

The school's demographic is mostly Hispanic coming from immigrant families. English learners benefit greatly from visual learning. Gamification provides an opportunity to teach children Math/ELA skill at their own pace. Gamification also supports emotional-social learning by providing an environment where learning is fun.
