Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 30

What an amazing year full of learning through craft projects. The teachers, students and parents loved all the treasures made! The students improved their fine motor skills, visual motor skills and visual perceptual skills. The crafts were easily adapted and provided opportunities for differentiated instruction to meet each student’s visual, cognitive or/and physical impairments. The students learned how to copy from a model for sequencing tasks. In addition, they were able to make art and express themselves by completing projects independently to make it their own! The students were engaged and attended to each craft during individual and group activities. It was wonderful to watch the student smile at their creation and want to put it in his or her backpack to go home with them or hang it up in the classroom. The variety of crafts and activities provided endless opportunities for engagement in developing independent functioning skills. Thank you so much for funding this grant as it made such a difference in providing an engaging way to learn for students with disabilities.

Goal

To provide students with special needs the opportunity to participate in a variety of art and craft activities to promote fine motor, visual motor, visual perceptual and motor planning skills.

What will be done with my students

Students will participate in a variety of arts and crafts activities. The students will be provided with materials related to the academic curriculum. This teaching strategy will facilitate a fun and interactive way to learn, socialize, and promote independence.  

 

Benefits to my students

The students will benefit from this hands on learning experience to further develop their fine motor and visual motor skills. In addition, they will be learning how to sequence and motor plan a task to create a completed project. All of the materials will be individually adapted to meet the student at his or her educational level.  

 

Budget Narrative

A variety of crafting supplies and materials to last the entire academic year to keep learning fun and engaging. Adaptive tools to engage in the projects for children with visual, cognitive and physical impairments.
