Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 25

Many of my Exceptional Student Education (ESE) students have already shown measurable progress through the use of our Fundations Kit. These students often need repeated exposure and hands-on reinforcement to fully grasp foundational reading concepts, especially phonemic awareness, decoding, and fluency. The Fundations Kit provides a wide range of multisensory materials—such as magnetic letter tiles, sound cards, and dry-erase boards—that allow for individualized, interactive instruction tailored to each student’s unique needs.  Because ESE students frequently require more time and repetition to master reading skills, this kit serves as a crucial resource for differentiated instruction. It enables me to directly target skill deficits and provide structured, explicit practice in areas such as letter-sound correspondence, blending, segmenting, and high-frequency word recognition. These activities closely align with the phonics-based instruction they are receiving in their general education classrooms, helping to reinforce and solidify learning across settings.  By integrating the Fundations Kit into small-group or one-on-one interventions, I am able to close learning gaps more effectively and guide students toward reading automaticity. This, in turn, increases their confidence, engagement, and ability to access grade-level content alongside their peers. Continued access to this resource is essential for supporting the literacy development of our ESE learners and setting them on a path toward long-term academic success.

Original Grant Overview

Category

Learning Aids - Sunshine state book sets, robotics kits, puzzle boards, science models, engineering supplies, etc.

What will be done with my students

I will use the visuals and manipulatives in the reading kit to work in small groups with my special education students to close their reading gap.

Benefits to my students

My students will have the materials needed to be successful in reading. Students with special needs often need more reinforcement through extra practice, visual, and manipulatives to drive in essential concepts.
