Students are expected to learn touch typing in several courses, including Keyboarding, Computer Applications 1 & 2, and Digital Information Technology. Students have not been properly trained in the touch typing technique and the keyboard cover forces the student to use home row and refer to the onscreen keyboard to locate the correct key.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 120

Students were able to focus on properly using home row and touch typing with the aid of the No Peek Keyboard Covers.  During 2nd semester I allowed them to take them off and continue practice using home row and several students asked to keep the cover to prevent them from looking. It was great!  Thanks for your support!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Students are expected to learn touch typing in several courses, including Keyboarding, Computer Applications 1 & 2, and Digital Information Technology. Students have not been properly trained in the touch typing technique and the keyboard cover forces the student to use home row and refer to the onscreen keyboard to locate the correct key.

Category

Learning Aids - Sunshine state book sets, robotics kits, puzzle boards, science models, engineering supplies, etc.

What will be done with my students

Students will type for 10 minutes daily using the keyboard covers. The students will be expected to increase their keyboarding words per minute (WPM) during the course. Proper use of the keyboard cover and daily practice will ensure the students meet their goals.

Benefits to my students

Employers often expect prospective employees to be able to type at least 50 WPM. Students are not successful in meeting typing requirements without the use of touch typing. Students will also develop strong typing skills that will allow the student to type notes during class in high school or college faster and more efficiently than handwriting notes.

Budget Narrative

The individual keyboard covers are $17 each. There is free shipping if 30 are purchased. The average class size is 26 students. 30 keyboard covers will ensure that all students have a keyboard cover during class. ($17 x 30 = $510)
