Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 17

Thank you so much! I had enough supplies for 2 Glow Days and some left over for next year. A couple other teachers loved the idea and borrowed the black lights for their own Glow Day rooms.

The first Glow Day was initiated to get kids out of a slump. The looks on their faces as they entered the room was priceless! I was able to find glow activities for every subject. Kids loved seeing their words and numbers glow in the dark. Not a single moan or groan that day except when they had to leave for recess and lunch. Glow Day worked like a charm to revive them!

I also invited Ms. Vieira, our principal. She had fun playing math games with the students, took several pictures and posted them to the VME Facebook page. She loved the teaching technique so much, she asked if she could use it for one of my teacher evaluations.

Proof the kids loved it? They asked for another one as a reward the completing a Star Chart for great behavior.

I could not have done this without you!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to have 100% engagement from students during lessons and reward them for their hard work.

Category

School-Wide, Grade-Level, Or Class Events/Programs - Parent Nights, Honor Roll Celebrations, EOY Events, etc.

What will be done with my students

Students will be working on math standards in a fun and engaging way. During Glow Day, students will rotate around the room working on math centers. They will utilize neon markers and highlighters to answer an array of problems. Glow Party is also a favorite end of year celebration.

Benefits to my students

Some of our math concepts are difficult and cause anxiety and frustration. Glow room transformations are relaxing and aid with lowering anxiety in students. Thus allowing them to focus fully on the benchmark. Glow Day also builds a love of learning and promotes community in the classroom.

Budget Narrative

The glow room will be used a couple times throughout the year and reused in future years. Items will be purchased from Amazon with free shipping.
