Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 148

Dear Champions for Learning Grants,

I am deeply grateful for the support provided through your generous grant. Because of these funds, my students were able to begin the school year equipped with the tools they needed to become active, engaged readers.

From the very start, they learned how to annotate texts and take meaningful notes—skills that are foundational to their academic growth. Using color-coded systems, they identified key literary elements and tracked their understanding in an organized and visually accessible way. For texts they couldn’t write on directly, students used Post-it notes to record their annotations and place them accurately within the reading material. These same notes were also used to highlight unfamiliar vocabulary, supporting language development alongside literary analysis.

Starting these strategies early in the year allowed me to establish strong academic habits in my students and set them up for success. Your support made that possible, and I’ve seen firsthand the difference it has made in their confidence and engagement with challenging texts.

I apologize that I forgot to take pictures throughout the year.

Thank you again for investing in our classroom and in my students’ futures.

Warm regards,
Elisa Murry
