Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 120

Students in grades 3-5 and 6-8 had access to my classroom library of Sunshine State books to check out and read. We follow up with the Sunshine State book election in April so students may vote for their favorite book on the Collier County election voting machines. Students can also earn their monthly reading AR goals by reading the Sunshine books, which are very motivating for them!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to put a highly motivating book in the hands of every student, so they have access to read something that excited them.

What will be done with my students

Students will participate in the reading program to vote in the Sunshine book election in the spring. They have prizes they may earn by reading a certain number of Sunshine list books. Students will also be able to achieve their monthly reading goals set with their teacher in Renaissance.

Benefits to my students

Students will be more motivated to read a selection of high interest books. They will be more likely to read and achieve optimal reading time daily, which we know has been shown to increase reading comprehension scores on standardized tests.

Budget Narrative

I would like to increase my classroom library to include the new Sunshine list books.
