Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 350

The Reader Leader Club was a hit!  We ended up being a group of only K-2 except for one avid 5th grade reader.

I was delighted with how excited the students were to come to the club "meetings."  We started each session with a read aloud (using Novel Effect which I got with another Champions for Learning Grant), followed by an activity.

We had different themes with reading in the dark being the most popular.  We even taught the kids how to make a fort with blankets and books.  They crawled in with their head lights and read away!

Each student is receiving a custom t-shirt that we made ourselves and chose a book to take home!  Thos books are on order and will be passed out during our last session of the year in May.

The club was so popular that I am going to continue it next year.  I love watching my students get excited about reading!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to create a Reader Leader club

What will be done with my students

I will create a reading club consisting of 30 students grade K-5. During the club time students will have an opportunity to read independently, listen to picture book read alouds and learn about different book genres.

Every student will receive a custom reader leader shirt that they can wear on club days. These shirts will give the students a sense of pride in being one of the school's Reader Leaders.

Each club meeting will have a different theme. Some examples are flashlight reading, sleepover (read with pillows and blankets) or buddy reading.

At the end of the year each student will receive a book that will be theirs to keep and add to their home library.

Benefits to my students

This club will be an additional opportunity for my avid readers to enjoy reading and sharing books in a leisurely and fun setting.

Budget Narrative

These supplies are enough to get us through an entire year of club meetings. The flashlights will be able to be used again in the future and are not consumable.
