Goal

To enhance the educational experience and level of engagement for 8th grade language arts students by providing in-class assistive technology.  

What will be done with my students

Seacrest Country Day School prides itself on being a low-tech school. We have technology and use it in appropriate ways, but we are careful to ensure it does not disrupt the learning environment. This grant will be used to purchase a class set of Chromebook laptops to be housed in my classroom.  

Benefits to my students

Seacrest has MacBook laptops available to reserve. Having a set of Chromebooks that stay inside my classroom will allow for less disruption during the school day (students leaving to get laptops from the technology room). It will also allow the Macbooks to be used by other classes instead of having to share with Language Arts. Macbooks are also highly capable laptops. I simply need computers for research and writing.

For my students, we will experience increased instructional time (less movement to and from picking up laptops). Our school utilizes the Google Education Suite, which will function seamlessly with a google driven Chromebook. With these Chromebooks, students will be conducting research for formal research papers and presentations and writing various types of essays (persuasive, expository, analytical, etc.). Students will also gain access to a host of assistive technology: voice-to-text, line readers, interactive lessons, databases, dyslexic friendly fonts, etc. The options are limitless.
