Impact to My Classroom

This grant allowed our entire department to increase life skills. The students chose their own recipes, created shopping lists and then we went to Publix to shop. Seeing them navigate the store and decide between brands to stay in budget is a skill we are unable to teach in the classroom. When it was time to make their recipes, we had conversations about food safety, germs, cooking techniques, temperature, food quality, measurement and presentation. With the included pictures you can get a glimpse of the level of real world functional life skills gained. We cannot thank Lipman Family Farms enough for the continued support of the MC program at Immokalee High School.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The students will learn how to use all tools in the kitchen and prepare meals.

What will be done with my students

The students use the items purchased for the kitchen to learn important independent living skills such as cooking, cleaning, and safety. The will choose their own recipes, shop, and make the recipe. This will be a permanent integration that will benefit students for years to come.

Benefits to my students

The students will learn the skills necessary to independently cook and clean a kitchen or get a job during those skills. 5 teachers and 60 students will benefit from this grant.
