Goal

The students will be able to physically interact with the curriculum by using Kids Discovery Magazine. On three different reading levels, students will be able to read historical texts. This allows both the advanced reader and our struggling readers access. The Florida Department of Education's criteria can be met because of their high level of involvement with this source.

What will be done with my students

The magazines will be read and discussed by the students as they work to better understand social studies and their surroundings. The rigorous academic application of the magazine will help students develop their critical reading skills. An educational strategy known as multimodal learning acknowledges that every student has unique learning preferences and abilities. It aims to involve students in learning in a number of methods. They include but not limited to:
Visual learners benefit from seeing information in the form of text, images, diagrams, charts, and graphs. Visual aids and presentations can help them absorb and understand concepts more effectively.
Auditory learners learn best through listening and speaking. They may prefer lectures, discussions, podcasts, or audiobooks as primary sources of information.
Adaptive learning platforms and technologies can tailor instruction to individual learners' needs by assessing their progress and adjusting content and activities accordingly.

Benefits to my students

Beyond Social Studies, English Language Arts will benefit from this material. There will be numerous levels of text interaction and reading for students. Cross-curriculum education promotes students' growth and development, as has been repeatedly demonstrated. Cross-curriculum education, specifically integrating Social Studies and English Language Arts, benefits student growth and development:
Enhanced Critical Thinking Skills: Cross-curricular learning encourages students to think critically across different subject areas. In the case of Social Studies and English Language Arts, students can analyze historical texts, primary sources, and literature to develop a deeper understanding of historical events, cultural contexts, and societal perspectives.
Improved Writing Skills: The integration of Social Studies and English Language Arts can boost students' writing skills. They can write essays, research papers, or creative pieces that require them to communicate historical facts and concepts effectively. This strengthens their ability to articulate ideas coherently and persuasively.
Broadened Vocabulary: Studying historical events and literary works exposes students to a diverse range of vocabulary. This not only helps them understand and interpret texts better but also expands their own writing and speaking vocabulary.
Empathy and Perspective-Taking: The combination of Social Studies and English Language Arts can promote empathy and perspective-taking. Reading literature from various cultures and time periods can help students develop a deeper understanding of different worldviews, historical contexts, and the human condition.
Enhanced Research Skills: Cross-curricular projects often require students to research and synthesize information from multiple sources. This process helps them develop valuable research skills, including information literacy, source evaluation, and citation practices.
Interdisciplinary Connections: Encouraging students to explore connections between history and literature fosters interdisciplinary thinking. This skill is valuable not only academically but also in real-life problem-solving scenarios where multiple areas of knowledge intersect.
Cultivating Critical Citizenship: Integrating Social Studies and English Language Arts can help students become informed and critical citizens. They learn to evaluate sources, discern bias, and engage in discussions about current events and societal issues with a well-informed perspective.
Engaging Learning Experience: Combining the two subjects can make learning more engaging and relevant for students. It connects historical events and societal issues with literary works that reflect the human experience, making learning more relatable and interesting.
Preparation for Future Careers: Many careers demand strong communication skills and the ability to analyze complex information. The combination of Social Studies and English Language Arts can prepare students for future professions in fields such as law, journalism, politics, and education.
