Impact to My Classroom

The Scholastic Diverse People, Diverse Places Literature Collection provided Seacrest Country Day School students with an opportunity to learn about cultures through literacy. Through beautifully written stories, students learned about the differences and similarities of communities, states, and countries worldwide. Students enjoyed reading stories about characters who share common experiences, thoughts, and feelings. Through meaningful and reflective conversations, students celebrated individuality and diversity and grew in awareness of compassion and empathy. Thank you, Champions for Learning!

Goal

Seacrest Country Day School is committed to ensuring that all children are celebrated. This collection of 25 children's literature books is intended to inspire thoughtful and respectful classroom dialogue about the diverse people from diverse places that make up the Seacrest School Community. It is through understanding both diversity and similarity that children become thoughtful, empathetic, and compassionate friends and global citizens. 

 

What will be done with my students

The Diverse People, Diverse Places book collection will be used in second-grade classrooms to enhance the Seacrest Country Day School Character Education program and geography curriculum. Through shared reading and teacher-directed inquiry discussions, students will develop an understanding of the cultural identities and geographic locations of diverse people and places around the globe.

The Diverse People, Diverse Places Book Collection for Grades 1-3 can be purchased through Scholastic Educator Resources (www.scholastic.com). The purchase is tax-exempt.
