LitCamp is a literacy and enrichment program for students in grade Kindergarten through Grade 8. LitCamp builds students’ social-emotional skills around what the program refers to as “the 7 strengths”—belonging, curiosity, friendship, kindness, confidence, courage, and hope. These strengths align with the Seacrest School's Core Values. The goal of implementing this program is for students to build connections with texts and their ability to see the relevance of both texts and the strengths in their own lives.

Goal

LitCamp is a literacy and enrichment program for students in grade Kindergarten through Grade 8. LitCamp builds students’ social-emotional skills around what the program refers to as “the 7 strengths”—belonging, curiosity, friendship, kindness, confidence, courage, and hope. These strengths align with the Seacrest School's Core Values. The goal of implementing this program is for students to build connections with texts and their ability to see the relevance of both texts and the strengths in their own lives.

What will be done with my students

Lessons will be framed around seven key strengths that cultivate student well-being and will prepare children for challenges that they will encounter in their educational lives and communities. The curriculum includes a teacher guide, over 100 high-interest trade books, and student folders. It includes pre and post assessment rubrics to gauge progress in reading engagement and enjoyment; writing engagement and enjoyment; speaking and listening; collaboration and community building; and sense of self: identity building.

Benefits to my students

The concepts taught using the LitCamp program will influence positive student achievement and behavioral gains by incorporating the 7 strengths. Specifically, the lessons will transfer to students' literacy beliefs and behaviors and social emotional competencies outside the school setting.

Budget Narrative

The LitCamp program will supplement our current literacy program and will directly tie The Seacrest Core Values into our ELA goals and objectives. This curriculum comes highly recommended by our teachers who have used LitCamp at other schools. This set will reach all second and third grade students at the Lower School.
