Original Grant Overview

Goal

To make each student at Pine Ridge Middle School feel welcomed and valued.

What will be done with my students

They will be invited to attend WE DINE TOGETHER every 3-4 weeks in a special room near the lunch room. This is for new students as well students who just have not found that special group of friends yet. They will eat pizza, or subs, or whatever the treat of the day is, and they will talk with each other, play board games, and talk with counselors who will be in the room. Last year we averaged 25 students each lunch period. We have business cards to invite them, but they can also walk in without being personally invited.

Benefits to my students

When students do not feel engaged and accepted they either lose all self esteem or lose any interest in school that may have once been there. They need to know they are not alone in those feelings they have. Not only are there adults on staff to help them, but there are students in their same predicaments, and students who are kind enough to welcome others. That makes both groups so much better as friends and classmates. To give is certainly to receive. Our school theme this year is: "We rise by lifting others." We will preach that all year long and our halls are currently decorated with that message.

Budget Narrative

In the past it has cost us $80 for pizzas ($40 each lunch).
Submarines will be split in half and we want this as an alternative to the pizza.
We make the baked goods, as a rule, but the ingredients can get expensive. We buy the large boxes of salty snacks so the students have their own bags and more choices. Some students will not eat sugared snacks (yeah) so at times we have various fruits with a dip. I believe our program will grow this year and I wanted to provide room for that in the amounts shown. Students always have their own water bottles.
