Original Grant Overview
Goal
The new Lower School Library of Seacrest Country Day School would like to add a collection of graphic novels for readers from PreK through Fifth Grade to read and enjoy at school or home.
What will be done with my students
There was a time when a graphic novel was not considered a "real book."
GADZOOKS! Those times are no more. Graphic novels get kids "really reading."
A graphic novel is a book that can be any genre but is written and illustrated in a comic book format. Graphic novels appeal to children at any reading level. When reading graphic novels, readers analyze the images in conjunction with the text to understand the plot and character development. Children readily connect to graphic novels as reading material, and this connection is helping to create lifelong readers.
Benefits to my students
The Seacrest Country Day School Lower School Library book collection was curated and moved to a new space for the 2022-23 school year. The goal for the 2023-24 school year is to continue to add books to the library collection. There is a need for a special selection of graphic novels in various genres and reading levels for students from PreK through Fifth Grade to read and enjoy at school and home. This collection of graphic novels will serve that purpose.
Budget Narrative
The grant request is for purchasing a selection of graphic novels. All graphic novels will be purchased through Seacrest's Amazon Prime Account. The purchases will be tax-exempt, and there will be no additional fees for shipping.
