Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 250

Dear Champions For Learning,

Thank you so much for supporting my students and the digital Arts! Our first project of the year was creating our own version of Edvard Munch and learning how to alter images and the difference between copyright, plagiarism and using something for educational purposes. This lesson took about six classes, and they loved learning about importing images, creating layers in their picture, learning how different brushes work, and how to smudge lines. During this project, they began learning about perspective too, and from then we moved on to creating a three-dimensional space.

This project took us four classes. We learned how to create a three-Dimensional space by creating lines. The students began to see that something that is bigger seems closer to the eye and something further away seems smaller. Then we learned how to use the camera and the students took each other's picture and learned how to put themselves inside the smallest box to make the illusion that they were at the end of a hallway of falling into a space. The students were excited when they realized they could manipulate the photo in unusual ways, such as stretching it or making it look like the image was curving.

I still cannot believe how quiet and focused the students were during the creation of these projects. Two of the classes really have a tough time following directions and wanting to complete assignments, no matter what the class. With the iPad they were thrilled to learn, and they created significantly more elaborate work than they have in the past. Most of my students do not have an iPad at home and many do not have technology at home. It really helped get my students engaged and excited to create in a new way. I hope they love the next projects just as much! Thank you so much for helping my students love learning again!

Sincerely,

Lyndsey Maxner

Original Grant Overview

Goal

A couple of my goals are to teach my students about Photoshop and help my less creative students be more creative and find enjoyment in the arts and further their creativity, which extends to all other aspects of life. It is also a great tool to push my more creative students to a new level and to learn about other industries that involve art; some amazing jobs could include web page design, graphic design, photography

What will be done with my students

With the Ipads and pencils I will have my 6th, 7th, and 8th graders create their own sticker. Depending on my class size, I would like my middle school students to learn how to blend colors using the iPad and create their own Salvador Dali picture.

When we are using other materials I will have my students use the iPad for research as well as for students who finish early on an assignment. I do hope to have my 5th graders begin learning the basics on them as well.

This school year I plan on having an after school Art Club and I know the students love creating on the iPads, and then printing off their perfected piece.

Benefits to my students

Many of my students come from low income families and their is no possibility of getting something like this at home. My goal is to have them create with technology and learn that you can do more than write papers with technology. It also tends to help my students that are not great at drawing to draw something successfully. This really helps with their self esteem.

Budget Narrative

4 iPads and apple pencils to go with them. The cases are to protect the iPads. In the past I have had to pay tax because I am purchasing these items and not the school, and I have had to pay the tax out of pocket in the past.
