Goal
As a first-year teacher, I look forward to meeting the individual needs of my students through the use of flexible seating within my classroom.
What will be done with my students
Students will have the opportunity to use a "wiggle seat" at their desk or other areas within the classroom. Additionally, stools and lap desks will be provided while students are not at their seats. Stools will be available at the Teacher's kidney table during small group instruction. Lao desks will be available on the classroom floor for students to use during group work or independent time.
Benefits to my students
Different types of flexible seating have been proven to be beneficial for children.
The wiggle seat allows students to sit more comfortably and wobble, lean or rock with few distractions to other students while learning. This allows blood flow to the brain for sensory input. Additionally, stools allow for a way to meet in a small group with the teacher. Lap desks foster student choice in the classroom, as they provide independence in choosing where to sit. Lap desks and stools can also be used for groups to sit together and collaborate.
