The goal of the Sabal Palm Library is to create a love for reading through school wide reading recognition. The incentives and recognition, as well as access to early chapter books in the younger grades, help promote a positive reinforcement to students. This proves especially important to students that might be reluctant to read otherwise. We want to showcase the effort and readers among our Sabal Palm family.

Goal

The goal of the Sabal Palm Library is to create a love for reading through school wide reading recognition. The incentives and recognition, as well as access to early chapter books in the younger grades, help promote a positive reinforcement to students. This proves especially important to students that might be reluctant to read otherwise. We want to showcase the effort and readers among our Sabal Palm family.

What will be done with my students

Incentivizing school wide reading programs will begin with the star bulletin, where our school readers are recognized for their reading achievement within the walls of our library. The more reading they do, the higher their star moves.
Furthermore, the 2nd grade classrooms on campus will each be provided with a copy of the Sunshine State Junior independent readers. These are early level chapter books to encourage their participation and excite them to continue participating with the state chapter books in the following years.
Brag tags and chains will also be awarded to the students for participation in the Sunshine State Reader programs in grades 2nd - 5th, as well as reading counts participation across all grade levels. These tags have been a motivator in the past. Students are allowed to wear them across campus to "brag" about their amazing reading achievements.

Benefits to my students

Over 600 students across campus and all grade levels will be encouraged to work hard and participate in classroom reading. Their recognition will help to encourage reading and in turn promote the love of reading. With the right book, all students have the potential to become avid readers. And as I say, "Readers are Leaders".
