Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 145

The wooden stacking blocks have been such a hit in the classroom. My students love using them as a tool for review in the classroom. The pre and post assessments show a 21% gain from practicing their review questions. Students not only pay more attention to their questions but the questions they ask their peers. They know that they may be asked those questions in the future so there is an added incentive to pay attention and learn from their neighbors, success or failures.

When a student gets a question wrong, they have to pull out a block corresponding to the category they missed. They may pull the block that causes the tower to tumble and lose the game. They type of engagement is priceless. Everyone is paying attention and listening to the questions and the answers. It is a different and fun way to practice and learn from their mistakes before their state EOC.

Civics students take a state end of course exam in May worth 30% of their final grade. That is an incredible amount of pressure on a 13-year-old. So, finding ways to practice content that is fun and productive is essential.
