Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 452

I would like to thank Jory and Paul Westberry for fulfilling our wish for a mascot at Tommie Barfield Elementary School. We are  ecstatic about the enthusiasm these mascots bring to our campus. Students are thrilled to see the manatee mascots, Tommie, Marco and Manny, as they tour around campus. As soon as the mascots arrived, students voted to name them. Now students are making them name buttons so that we know which manatee is which. The manatee's first debue was our 2nd Annual Leadership Day on March 10th, 2023. We are already making plans for their next outing. Thank you for bringing this joyful gift to our school.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

We've Got Spirit! Our school is energized and moving mountains through learning. To continue our momentum, we'd love to buy a School Mascot: Manatee Costume to energize students at events and during education celebrations.

What will be done with my students

Students will come to know the Manatee Costume as a symbol of celebration. We've borrowed mascot costumes from iReady Reading in the past, to energize students when they meet their goals. Unfortunately, we can only use these mascots when we have them checked out. We'd like to have our own mascot which can be used at any time. Our logo includes an adult manatee and a junior manatee. We hope to buy two mascots in two sizes so that a student leader may also participate by wearing the junior mascot as a leadership opportunity. We plan on students naming the two manatees who have remained nameless all of these years.

Benefits to my students

Manatee Celebration Ideas Include:
-Quarterly Celebration Assemblies
-Car/Bus Loop Celebrations
-When classes meet their iReady goals.
-When classes meet their math WIGs.
-When students meet their personal goals.
-When students recieve positive referals.
-When students demonstrate good character and visit the book vending machine, the manatee can be there.
-Any events throughout the year: Literacy Week, Red Ribbon Week, Walk n' Roll to School, Fundraisers, Christmas Parade, Book Fair, and many more.
By building School Spirit, students will connect with school and continue to deepen their enjoyment in coming to school.
