Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 81

Activity # 2: Comprehensible Input

CI is an instructional tool that leads me to believe that I can achieve the classroom setting that I have visualized for my French Program to become more efficient communicators. Students’ communication skills will be built as they will be engaged with authentic, everyday phrases and situations, to help them understand French and to produce phrases after they have spent an amount of time being an active Reader, Writer and engaged Listener.

This Best Practice will create an increase of students who may take French classes which will have a global impact because “French is the official language of more than twenty-five countries and an official language of the European Union and United Nation.” Additionally, “French and English are the only two languages that are spoken on every continent” and “2 million or more Americans speak French…”

The classroom was divided in four centers: Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking with the framework of “Language Acquisition” to encourage natural communication.” Students will work in groups to “WL.K12.NM.1.2: Demonstrate understanding of everyday expressions dealing with simple and concrete daily activities and needs, presented in a clear, slow, and repeated speech.” and to WL.K12.IH.4.6: Formulate and deliver a presentation on an assigned topic using multimedia resources to support the presentation.”

Post-it-Super Sticky Easel Pad and Sharpies was used to help students produce their stories.

Reading/Writing Center: Students wrote and read simple articles in French. Students produced the vocabulary words needed to write stories based on their likes and interests. Students drew pictures to elaborate on the stories.

Speaking/Listening Center: Students was able to listen to native speakers and read articles to “Demonstrate understanding of everyday expressions dealing with simple and concrete daily activities…” Students was be able to read along with the native speakers which is a great way to produce “input” by listening to “ stories, hearing everyday speech, and listening to conversations with a native speaker. “Students completed listening activities from VHL based on a similar theme as the articles to reinforce the concepts. Students also had meaningful conversation with their peers in the classroom.

During the Speaking Session students began to produce sentences on their own in addition to selected activities from VHL “on an assigned topic” with similar themes and started to converse with their peers in the classroom by creating a more interactive conversation with familiar vocabulary words, which is “An example of “output”.

Students participated in conversation and responded to what the other person says in the classroom and on the VHL platform. Students was encouraged to carefully listen to the conversation to answer or record the appropriate response.

Post-it-Super Sticky Easel Pad and Sharpies was used to help students produce their stories.

IPAD was utilized as a multimedia resource to support that presentation. By implementing the strategies listed, students were able to achieve the goal of becoming more efficient in communicating in French.

Teacher created Unit Themes

Students was provided possible vocabulary words for the Themes.

Teacher wrote the vocabulary words on Post-it Super Sticky Easel Pad

Teacher provided additional vocabulary needed for the Themes according to the Curriculum (VHL)

Students took notes (Wrote the listed vocabulary words)

Teacher modeled the vocabulary words' pronunciation for the students.

Teacher provided opportunities for students to practice the strategy independently.

Students practiced the pronunciation strategy until they reach at least 90% accuracy.

Teacher and Student built stories/articles based on the listed vocabulary words.

Budget Narrative

I would like to thank Champions for Learning’s Donors for the opportunity such as requesting a grant to enhance the educational process for my students.

The goal for this grant is the desire to meet all students’ educational needs, by creating a classroom environment that showcases how learning French as a language can be possible and will be possible through intentional communication. I plan to incorporate Vista Higher learning platform (VHL) with the Best Practice of Comprehensible Input (CI) to help my French students to become more efficient communicators. This process requires an amount of Post-it-Super Sticky Easel Pads and Sharpies to allow the students to create sufficient materials to meet the four components; Reading; Writing; Speaking; Listening in order to become sufficient.
Post-it-Super Sticky Easel Pads are $115.00 (30 sheets/pad 6 pads)
and the Sharpies are $36.00 each (box 36 CT)
The total amount of $435.00

I believe, 3 sets of each will be sufficient enough to build the “Comprehensible Input French Classroom for Global Impact.”

I sincerely thank All Of You Donors in advance for allowing teachers such as myself the possibility to dream BIG for our students by seeking the necessary resources and materials to provide impactful services with positive changes.
