Suncoast Credit Union

The goal is to provide materials to science labs and science fair experiments for as many students as possible. Many students come up with great ideas for science experiments for science fair but do not have the resources to follow through with their experiment. Science Fair requires many trials to be done and that requires more materials to complete the experiment and collect the necessary data. Science Fair is a great opportunity for students to learn about the nature of science but also to win prizes and scholarships to enhance their futures. Providing students the necessary materials will allow them to participate in the science fair.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 120

I was able to identify students that needed help getting supplies for their science fair projects.  I made a list of everything that they needed and acquire the matierals.  Students were able to complete their district required science fair project and compete in the school science fair.  Three of my students qualified to move on to the regional science fair.  I was able to buy more materials for them to complete extra trails for their experiments.  One of them place third at regionals and recieved a prize.  I was also able to use the rest of teh funds to buy classroom science lab materials.  Students were able to watch live caterpillars turn into butterflies.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal is to provide materials to science labs and science fair experiments for as many students as possible. Many students come up with great ideas for science experiments for science fair but do not have the resources to follow through with their experiment. Science Fair requires many trials to be done and that requires more materials to complete the experiment and collect the necessary data. Science Fair is a great opportunity for students to learn about the nature of science but also to win prizes and scholarships to enhance their futures. Providing students the necessary materials will allow them to participate in the science fair.

What will be done with my students

Students will submit their project ideas and the required materials needed to complete the experiment. I will buy the materials and assist them in completing the experiment and the science board necessary to participate in the science fair. Some of the money will be used to buy materials for in class labs that will demonstrate the scientific method and give the students ideas on what to do for their science fair project. Students will use the scientific method to carryout their experiments. They will complete multiple trials, analyze the data and form conclusions based on their experiments and research. Students will write up their findings and create a display demonstrating what they learned from conducting the experiment.

Benefits to my students

Students will engage in hands on activities to grow their understanding of the Nature of Science. When students are engaged in science, they enjoy it more making them want to do more science activities. Many middle school students do not like science and it is my goal to have them like a little bit more every year and eventually find careers in STEM fields.
