Goal

I often try to create learning environments that are engaging and interesting through room transformations or special projects. These simple, and reusable props can easily be adapted to use in multiple classroom transformations including Boot Camp, Film Festival, Pac-Man, Hungry Hungry Hippos with the goal of motivating and challenging students to excel.  

What will be done with my students

With these requested resources, I would infuse games into the lessons centered around our required content. Imagine identifying text features through a mystery style spy lesson, or arguing a point in your writing to a “judge” and classroom “courtroom”. Simple black lights transform any mundane lesson when paired with simple highlighters and a set of clipboards and personal ID badges. Engagement is instantly created when students walk into a classroom transformed into a giant Pac-Man game board where they will battle and race through language and math review. These reusable items will be organized and stored for use throughout the fourth grade team at Lake Park Elementary. Many classroom transformations are done in all the classrooms at the same time and on the same day(s) so having multiple props is key to team collaboration. With some creative planning we can reuse many of the items throughout the year for different purposes to engage and excite our learners. 

Benefits to my students

Science shows that students learn best when they feel safe and comfortable. They retain and remember information presented to them better when they are feeling positive and encouraged. By transforming our curriculum, students will learn without the stress and pressure of feeling behind or below grade level. In addition to learning, students will strengthen their team building and be able to collaborate better with their classmates.

The listed items will be used for various room transformation lessons including the game of Clue, Pac-Man, Floor is Lava, Writing Boot Camp, Hungy Hungry Hippos and more!
