With materials such as Magnatiles, Brainometry, and Brain Flakes my students will be given the opportunity to design and build structures as big and as creative as they can imagine! Through the use of these quality materials, students will engage independently and in groups with hands-on learning opportunities that will target critical math, science, discovery, and design/engineering concepts. The possibilities for exploring and learning with these tools in a classroom are endless!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

I am constantly searching for new and innovative ways to get all of my students excited and engaged in STEM learning.

What will be done with my students

My goal will be to have Stem Bins readily available in the morning when students arrive. This will be an engaging and productive activity to begin their day with rather than completing a worksheet or previously unfinished work till the bell rings. The various stem bins will invite children to plan, design and build structures, while ultimately fostering a life-long love for STEM! All of my students will be given the opportunity to enhance their Science, Technology, Engineering and Math skills both independently and in a group setting through the use of the hands-on building materials, making it a powerhouse for learning!

Benefits to my students

Research shows that STEM activities are very helpful for students. They are said to provide “access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking,” according to EducationCloset, a digital learning desination for educators. “The end results are students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process,” (EducationCloset). STEAM utilizes benefits from art, science, technology, math and engineering, bringing them all together to make new connections and learn in new ways.
