Suncoast Credit Union

The goal of this project is to raise $9000 or more to donate to the Florida Wildlife Federation. This will be done by purchasing 25 statues of panthers. We will then collaborate with local artists who will paint and decorate the statues. They will then be auctioned off with all proceeds being donated to the Florida Wildlife Federation to use on conservation efforts for our local panthers in SW Florida.

What will be done with my students

This project replicates last year's Bear Pride grant where we had 22 wooden bear statues built, painted, and auctioned off with over $8000 being donated to the Florida Wildlife Federation that used the funds for bear conservation efforts in SW Florida. That project grew larger than I ever imagined. The willingness of local artists to collaborate on the project was overwhelming, and they want to work with us again this year on our panther project.
The main student group that will work on this project will be our National Honor Society students who will coordinate the purchase of the statues, communicate with the artists, deliver panthers to the artists, monitor progress of artists, coordinate with local agencies and organizations such as The Norris Center and Naples Art. They will also create publications, information, and market our auction event. Our culinary academy will prepare refreshments for our auction. Our chorus and orchestra classes will perform at the event, and our yearbook students will photograph and document the event. Our construction academy students will create signage. This project will bring together a number of student groups to utilize their unique talents.
Last year's bear auction raised $8581. This year our goal is to reach $9000. At the end of last year's auction, we had more artists approach us and ask to be placed on our list for this year. Naples Art also committed to providing exhibit space. And prominent, affluent Naples professionals offered their assistance in promoting future efforts. This is truly a community project that brings together students, a state based nonprofit organization, local professional artists, and local art organizations.

Benefits to my students

Panthers Across Collier is a business simulation project. It is securing a product, improving it, marketing it, and then selling (auction) it. Students will have to:
Negotiate with the sellers.
Purchase product based on analyzed data.
Communicate with the artists.
Connect with artists and deliver statues.
Record location and progress of each statue
Collaborate with local art organizations
Coordinate other school groups.
Communicate with the FL. Wildlife Federation
Devise a marketing plan for the auction
Plan and implement the auction.
Share results and success of project with community.
