Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 17

My Sunny Readers grant was a success! Students were able to read, take home, and be read to the Sunshine State Readers. Over 80% of my students read all of the books and passed the reading comprehension quizes. Students were able to enjoy the stories as I read them aloud to the class, take turns taking them home and reading them to their families, and reading them in the classroom. The students really enjoyed the chapter books and were even able to extend their reading with a couple because they were part of a series. This grant helped build the love of reading and the students really enjoyed reading all the types of genres that the list of Sunshine Books provided. Students continue to check out these books from our classroom library to reread them and build their fluency. Due to this grant students have built the love of reading and it has inspired many students to start reading different types of books that they wouldn't normally read.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal of this project is for all students to read the 15 Sunshine State Jr Books. Students will earn badges, track their goal, and get to vote for their favorite. Having a class set will allow us to read them in school, at home, and share the experience of reading with families.

What will be done with my students

Students will have a goal of reading all 15 Sunshine State Readers. This is something students do each year and it is very exciting for them. There are prizes and initiatives for students to help them stay motivated and read each one. This goal will help students build a love for learning and read different types of books that Florida has chosen for their grade.

Benefits to my students

There are many benefits for this grant. First and foremost building a love for reading and reading different types of books. Second, students will be making a goal and keeping track of it, which will help with our Leader in Me new initiative. Last, students will be building their reading comprehension and fluency as they read each book.
