Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 150

Thank you so much for investing in my students.  They have enjoyed learning about the digital arts.  This December my seventh and eighth graders designed flyers for our Holiday concert.  They were excited to create something that had a use, rather than just nice to look at.  It also taught them about copy write and creating something for a "client".  The “client” was the music teacher and they were excited to show what they made for the music teacher’s Kindergarten through 6th grade holiday concert.  They were able to hang their flyers around the school, and seemed to take pride in what they had done.

I also have an after school club with 5th, 6th, and 8th graders.  They are extremely interested in altering digital images as well as combining different images and creating their unique twist.  I even have one that is working on a cartoon.  We just used them for learning about different Florida everglades animals and entering into the Florida Everglades Coin Challenge.  In the future, I would love to do this contest digitally, but unfortunately, due to the class to iPad ratio I was only able to have them look up the animal and background on the iPad.

Thank you again for giving my students the opportunity to learn about the digital arts.  I hope to give the students more opportunities to learn how to create different types of art with this amazing invention.  You should see the students faces light up with they find out they get to do art on an ipad.

Sincerely,

Ms. Maxner

Original Grant Overview

Goal

A couple of my goals are to teach my students about Photoshop and help my less creative students be more creative and find enjoyment in the arts and further their creativity, which extends to all other aspects of life. It is also a great tool to push my more creative students to a new level and to learn about other industries that involve art; some amazing jobs could include web page design, graphic design, photography

What will be done with my students

My students will learn how to draw on an ipad and use the app procreate to create artwork that can be printed out when finished. Students will further understand the idea of layering images, since you can make several layers in an image. This will also help my students who have difficulty drawing, and allow them to understand the idea of layering, by pulling images from the internet, and putting them in a picture. My students will also learn about copy right laws and how we cannot take someone else's work and claim it as our own. Currently I have six ipads so I am limited to only working with my earlier finishers, but with a total of ten I can work with half the class at a time working on a project and really get all my students to learn these fundamentals.

Benefits to my students

Most of my students do not have ipads at home and have no idea about the amazing wonders of technology and how artists use apps like Photoshop to edit what they see in magazines and online, this may also help some of my students realize that the models they see in magazines are NOT real expectations of the human body.
