Goal

The goal of this project is to have students motivated and develop into stronger readers by comprehending what they are reading. This will help them to be better prepared to take any of the Reading assessments throughout the year.  

What will be done with my students

This grant will be a reading incentive program to be used for the students in my fourth grade classroom. These books have a computerized quiz. Students will take tests on the books of their choice, and with a weekly pass rate of 70%, they will be able to earn a charm each week. The students will be earning charms to wear on a necklace as they successfully complete reading quizzes.  

Benefits to my students

One large benefit of this program the grant will fund is that it assesses comprehension of reading passages. The SSYRA (Sunshine State Young Readers Award) Program is to encourage students to read independently for pleasure and to read books that are on, above, and below their reading level in order to improve their reading fluency. Sunshine State books are selected for their wide appeal, literary value, varied genres, curriculum connections, and/or multicultural representation. This will further help to prepare students to be successful on the yearly reading assessments. Another benefit is that students will be motivated to read! 

Budget Narrative

I am requesting $274.73 to be able to purchase the 15 SSYRA book set, 15 sets of 25 charms for each of the 15 books, and 25 necklace lanyards for the charms. Shipping is free.
