Original Grant Overview
Goal
The goal of this project is to motivate students to read and to inspire reading success for all students.
What will be done with my students
This grant will be a reading incentive program to be used for the students at Shadowlawn Elementary. The students will choose library books on their independent reading levels from the Shadowlawn Media Center. Each learner will read their books at their own pace and then will complete a short reading counts quiz to verify comprehension. Once students pass the quiz then they will earn points. The more they read the more points they earn. The students will set goals and will be responsible for keeping track of their progress. When they get to certain point increments then they will get their brag tags for their necklaces.
Benefits to my students
The key to ensuring success in reading is to personalize student practice, set goals, a provide a means to monitor progress towards those goals. Students will benefit because this goal will help improve their reading proficiency by improving vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency skills. Reading and receiving brag tags will help students build personal responsibility toward increasing their reading achievement by allowing them to set quantifiable reading goals and track their own progress. The students will also see that they are part of a whole school community not only tracking their own progress but will see how their progress affects their classroom, grade level and school wide goals as well. The Brag Tags are celebrating the students success!
