Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 19

My students made huge gains in their writing abilities this year and I owe a good part of that to Classkick because it really enhanced my ability to document their work and to give feedback discretely and in real time! Being discrete is important as to not embarrass students who can be easily embarrassed when not doing something "perfectly." The timing of feedback is so important because I can intervene and correct misconceptions before they become reinforced. Being able to see the class’s work also allowed me to view trends in real time so that I could stop the lesson and reteach certain parts. Classkick made that easier because all the work is kept in one place, and I watched them work all at the same time. I am very grateful for Champions for Learning and our sponsor, Mrs. Palay, which allowed us to have this program and assisted us in making great progress this year.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to obtain a professional membership to Classkick.com to increase student engagement.

What will be done with my students

My students will be able to have Classkick to work on reading (and other subjects') assignments on their computers.

Benefits to my students

Since we don't have physical reading books yet, it's essential that students do their work online, using their devices. Classkick makes that possible and easier for me to plan the lesson progression as well as monitor student progress closely. Even when we do have books, I will still be posting different assignments to Classkick that students will complete on the site to allow me to help them more rapidly and help them progress.

My students benefit from Classkick because I can see their work being done in real time through a computer screen. It is beneficial is so many ways. First, I can leave direct feedback as they are working which means I can help them from anywhere and can do so discreetly. That option is very helpful when students are not able to be in school, they can still complete the same assignments and work at the same pace as the rest of the class and I can monitor their work remotely and in real time. The discreet feedback helps some students who feel embarrassed by being redirected or by having the teacher sit with them as they work.

Students are more engaged in working digitally and enjoy typing. Increased engagement in reading is exactly what the learners in my class need as we plan to make big gains on this year's Florida State Assessment. Also, reading engagement will help them to be more successful in the future as reading is essential for learning and being an active and contributing member of society. Their increased ability to type will be a great asset as they move through the grade levels and into the working world.
