Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 50

For the Networking dinner I was able to invite all of my Academy of Finance classes to the dinner. In doing so I was able to teach the students about networking prior to the event, we were also able to discuss professional dress. These concepts are very important to students that are interested in business and finance. I invited all of my classes so I was able to teach these concepts to all the classes prior to the event. At the dinner the students were able to put what they learned to practice. The students all looked very professional and were able to speak with many different professionals from different business-related fields. At the event the students engaged in discussions to help them plan for the future. After the event I survey both the professionals and students and the overwhelming response was that the event was a success and it was a great learning experience for both the students and also the professionals. Having the event also allowed my classes to speak about why going to a networking event in the future will be beneficial to the students. I believe the event was extremely beneficial to the students and an evening they won’t soon forget. I also hope that some of the students made some connections that will help them in the future.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

To give the Entrepreneurship students an opportunity to learn how to network with local business professionals while in a business setting; while also providing a thank you to mentors who have supported the students in our Entrepreneurship classes.

What will be done with my students

Students will attend a dinner where they will have to dress up and interact with businessmen and businesswomen. At this event, students will learn networking and employability skills. Students will also be given the opportunity to speak in front of adults and peers by giving elevator pitches on their ideas and companies that they created during the class.

Benefits to my students

This would be a unique opportunity for students to have interaction with many individuals that they normally would not have the chance to network with. It would be an excellent work-based learning opportunity that would allow the students to put the skills, learned in class, to real use while also gaining feedback before entering the real world.

Budget Narrative

I will rent a room at Greenlinks at Lely Resort and have the dinner catered for 40 people 30 students and 10 adults.
