Original Grant Overview
Goal
I would love to have classroom book sets that my entire class can each have their own book in front of them to look at and read aloud with.
What will be done with my students
We will use the books to do whole class reads and experience hands on projects that connect the book to different learning objects in the quarter.
This story would be a great addition to our classroom because as we read through it students are able to connect real events from history to fantasy. This story really helps students see how an author uses writing to get a reader engaged and wanting to read more.
In 4th grade writing is very important. Students are learning to take informational articles and write about them. This book is a perfect example of how to do that. This book will be a great tool to not only work on reading but use the real events from it to improve students' writing.
Benefits to my students
As well as this vital element of creating a positive, pleasurable experience, there are many benefits of reading a whole class text:
Encountering new words and enriching vocabulary – you experience words that would almost never come up in conversation.
Helps students appreciate the beauty and rhythm of language.
