Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 15

Dear Donors,

The generous donation given to my classroom through this grant has transformed the way students learn in my classroom. The students now have alternative seating, which bring comfort to learning. The alternative seating is used daily by all of my students. They are excited about their student centered learning activties now that they have "cool" flexiable seating options. Student engagment has increased now that students can get up (out of their desk and hard chairs) and choose a more comfortable seating option. The grant has had such a positive impact on my classroom environment. I am so excited for my group next year to get to experience the flexiable seating!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

As a teacher, it is my goal to provide various opportunities for students to be able to choose to work where they feel most comfortable. Through experience and observation, I have learned that students need to feel safe and comfortable to learn. Students work better in a comfortable environment.

What will be done with my students

As educators, we continuously strive to create a warm and inviting classroom atmosphere that facilitates the needs of our diverse learners. We want our students to not only feel emotionally comfortable, but physically comfortable as well. The world of education is constantly evolving. I have seen more teachers begin to move away from the traditional row and column seating to cluster seating to promote collaboration and teamwork. Now, I am beginning to see teachers move away from traditional desks and introduce flexible seating. Whether working in the educational field or in an office setting, sitting on a hard chair for extended amounts of time can be difficult for anyone, regardless of age or learning style.

Benefits to my students

I feel this project will help my low-performing students in my classroom because it will aid in fostering the individual needs for my students. By having the opportunity to decide on their seating arrangement, it will teach students decision-making and problem-solving skills, as well as conflict-resolution and self-awareness. In addition, allowing students to choose their seating preference, will improve their focus and listening skills to help all students, not just the low-performing students.
