Original Grant Overview
Goal
The goal of the We Dine Together Club is to build a community of leaders who will be of service to others. New students will be able to assimilate into the school culture, students will form friendships and learn to accept one another. We want to foster an improved sense of community and belonging with all our Oakridge Middle School students which consequently increases student achievement.
What will be done with my students
Students will:
-Provide school tours and be a lunch buddy to new students
-Have a monthly luncheon for new students.
-Be invited to lunch in a designated room. This is for new students and those who may not have someone to sit with.
-Reach out to students who appear isolated in the mornings before the start of school and during lunches. The Zen room is the designated We Dine Together lunch area.
-Participate in interactive activities, group discussions and dining together which will foster feelings of acceptance and belonging.
-Attend club meetings. Ways to reach out to isolated students will be discussed and practiced. Activities/projects to foster a positivity, acceptance and tolerance school-wide will be planned and facilitated by the students of the club.
Benefits to my students
The students will:
Help new students to feel welcomed and decrease their anxiety.
Interact with new students and students who may be isolated.
Have a safe place to go without fear of rejection.
Promote and create a sense of community and tolerance.
This is my second year as sponsor of We Dine Together at Oakridge Middle. I have seen the benefits for the school at large and also for the club members. These kids truly love helping others!
Budget Narrative
I plan to provide students with custom lanyards that identify them as a club member so that they will be allowed to walk around during lunch and before school to interact with students who appear isolated.
I plan to order T-shirts for We Dine Together Members to promote unity.
The pizza and snacks are for club meetings and new student luncheons.
The craft supplies will be used to show appreciation and provide cheer to students and staff.
