Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 350

Thank you so much for the donation!  With your donation I was able to purchase a printer and 2 ipads.  I did write a donors choose for two apple pencils to go along with this project.  My classroom now has 6 ipads and apple pencils.  I have been getting my 7th and 8th graders to really enjoy the process of drawing.  My students who tend to dislike drawing have now found a way to love it.  I have shown them how to use the program called procreate; this allows them to draw, color, and even import photos and alter them.

Students can use different types of brushes to create different effect including one that looks light and makes it seem like the lines are glowing.  This new outlet has really grabbed some of my less then enthused students and brought a smile to their face.

I have also been teaching my 5th and 6th grades how to use it.  We are working more on using the brushes and different layers.  They have learned that they can layer a picture, so when they make a mistake they can just erase that one layer instead of altering the entire piece.  A few of the 6th graders have also gotten into importing and editing.  This has also helped student to learn how to improve their own drawing skills my seeing and working with professional’s pieces.

Thank you so much for helping my really grab the attention of a generation that is moving more and more towards electronics.  This is also great for my students who would like to become animators, graphic designers, and illustrators.  This helps them improve on and see what professionals are doing in those fields and work on their own technical skills.  I can’t believe their excitement!  Thank you!

Sincerely,

Lyndsey Maxner

Original Grant Overview

Goal

To maximize students learning and engagement in the classroom. I want to combine hands on learning with technology. Students can use different apps on the ipad to draw, create 3D sculptures, and learn how art is drawn on paper as well as done on computer.

What will be done with my students

Students will learn how to use procreate, a simpler version of Photoshop. They will learn how to create designs, and work on using the ipencil to create unique pieces of work. I will have them print out their final version.
Students will also have the opportunity to create 3D sculptures on the ipad and in the future I would like these to be printed out onto a 3D printer.

Benefits to my students

Students can see how art can help them develop engineering skills, and critical thinking skills necessary in today's fields.

Budget Narrative

I do have 4 ipads and pencils, this will help me have more students at a time on an ipad, as i teach how to use the procreate and 3D apps.
