Original Grant Overview
Goal
Our goal is to encourage and motivate ALL children to read. We will continue to inspire and develop a love of reading in ALL children.
What will be done with my students
The students will choose library books on their independent reading levels from the Shadowlawn Media Center. Each learner will read their books at their own pace and then will complete a short reading counts quiz to verify comprehension. Once students pass the quiz then they will earn points. The more they read the more points they earn. The students will set monthly goals and will be responsible for keeping track of their progress. When they get to certain point increments then they will get their brag tags for their necklaces.
Benefits to my students
This year our school wide goal is "Lead to Succeed." All brag tags will be super hero themed. Our school wide reading goal will be based on our reading counts points program. Students will benefit because this goal will help improve their reading proficiency by improving vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency skills. Reading and receiving brag tags will help students build personal responsibility toward increasing their reading achievement by allowing them to set quantifiable reading goals and track their own progress. The students will also see that they are part of whole school community not only tracking their own progress but will see every month how their progress affects their classroom, grade level and school wide goals monthly as well.
