Girls who have experienced trauma such as abuse and neglect often have difficulty managing emotions and concentrating in class. Using fidgets and other stress-relief items helps girls learn and practice positive coping strategies so they can stay focused on classwork instead of leaving class, interrupting, or getting distracted by others. Fidget items are helpful for managing stress, anxiety, and depression in positive ways.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 65

Girls who have experienced trauma such as abuse and neglect were very excited to receive the fidget and stress-relief items. These items help them manage their emotions and concentrate in class. They use them in class to focus on classwork instead of leaving class, interrupting, or getting distracted by others. The fidget items are helpful for managing stress, anxiety, and depression in positive ways.

The girls love their fidgets and were so excited to receive them. The project was able to fund enough items for all 65 girls at Pace to receive at least 2 items. Each girl has their own items so they don't have to be shared. Girls are better able to focus and complete coursework and be more successful in class.

What will be done with my students

Fidget and stress-relief items will be provided to girls who are easily distracted so they can keep in their pencil cases for use in class to improve concentration and focus. Each student will receive their own items because items cannot be shared due to the pandemic, which will help girls focus and be successful in class.

Benefits to my students

Girls with depression, anxiety, and trauma will be able to use positive relaxation fidget tools to learn to regulate emotions in positive ways, improve concentration and focus in class, so they can be successful in school and life.
