Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 122

Students checked out the books they were interested in and then did video reviews of the book's subject and the science behind it. Students were often checking out books just to read as well. Some of the popular titles were Balck Wemon in Science, Shark LAdy, Patricia's Vision, and Hedy Lamarr's Double Life. The best resonses from students were that they had never heard of the person they read about before but that they did amazing things which was the goal of the project for students to realize many different people have and are contributing to science.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Students will be more aware of the contributions to science made by people from many backgrounds.

What will be done with my students

We will have an activity where students read about someone from an under represented group in science then create a video to share about that person. All guidelines for cleaning and sterilizing materials for use will be followed to prevent any spread of illness because of shared materials.

Benefits to my students

Students will be able to picture themselves in a STEM career. They will also use skills from their English Language Arts and Social Studies classes to better understand how science keeps moving forward with the contributions of many.

Budget Narrative

The entire budget will go toward all the books students will need to start their research.
