Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 18

I was able to do guided reading in a safe, socially distanced way, but I still created a sense of collaborative learning.  This year students had to stay at their desks. I used the program to assign the same text to a small group of student's devices and they could record themselves reading and then could share comments with each other about the book. The program provided hundreds of professionally leveled guided reading texts. The digital interactive reader reads the text to at-risk students and it has built-in recording technology. It provided effective and rigorous lesson plans, comprehension-based activities, comprehension quizzes, and guided writing activities to complement each text. The books were at the exact level of the students. I was able to choose books for each group of student's reading levels. I was able to use it for the differentiation of lessons. This program helped my students make reading gains, prepare for assessments, and have access to hundreds of books at their fingertips. They used the program at home for reading homework minutes. The students developed a sense of shared reading, and community and were able to stay safe. Students built their habit of reading and enjoyed using the program to read daily. I was able to meet with students and assess their skills to focus the lessons using the program. It was a great success

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to provide digital access through a subscription to my.guidedreaders.com to hundreds of leveled readers so we may provide guided reading in a safe, socially distanced way but still create a sense of collaborative learning.

What will be done with my students

Typically children gather at a reading table to read multiple copies of a leveled reader and to learn specific learning standards and goals for reading the text. This year students must stay at their desks. By using this program we could assign the same text to a small group of student's iPads and they could record themselves reading and then could share comments with each other about the book. The program provides hundreds of professionally leveled guided reading texts. The digital interactive reader will read the text to at-risk students and it has built-in recording technology. It provides effective and rigorous lesson plans, comprehension-based activities, comprehension quizzes, and guided writing activities to complement each text. The books are at the exact level of the students. We can choose books for each group of student's reading levels.

Benefits to my students

The program provides teacher and student portals for the differentiation of lessons. This program will help my students make reading gains, prepare for assessments, and have access to hundreds of books at their fingertips. They can utilize this program from home for reading homework minutes or should we need it-online learning. This resource will help students develop a sense of shared reading, and community as well as help them keep safe. Students will increase their habit of reading and explode their enjoyment of so many books!
