As we all know reading is important and allows students to reinforce their comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency skills. Reading the Sunshine Stare Readers exposes them to a wide range of literature. Many of the students have taken to reading the SSYRA books and some of the classroom teachers have even been reading them to the classes. When we are able to celebrate reading we then send a message of how fun it can be and how important it is.

Hermoine Granger was kind enough to fund the SSYRA Brag Tags for our 2020-2021 school year. The kids are absolutely loving reading and earning these brag tags. Students are taking their own responsibility for reading and setting their own goals.

We have been able to create a culture that celebrates and values a love for reading. When we are able to celebrate reading we then send a message of how fun it can be and how important it is.

We are so thankful that this grant was funded!

Original Grant Overview

Goal(s)

The goal is to inspire and encourage students to read independently for pleasure and to read books that are on, above, and below their reading level in order to improve their reading fluency.

Project Description

Students will have the opportunity to read all 15 SSYRA books (grades 3-5) and SSYRA JR. books (grades k-2) In order to complete a book, the students need to take a Reading Counts test for that book. Once they complete a quiz verifying comprehension then they will be awarded a Brag Tag specifically for that book. Each Brag Tag is the cover of the book and the year.

Expected Outcomes

This will benefit my students because it will develop student interest in reading for pleasure by exposing them to a wide range of appropriate literature. The students will develop skills in fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary.

Purpose of Funding

Brag Tag Prices are calculated using Schoollife.com. I am ordering 25 of each SSYRA and SSYRA jr. Brag tags.
