Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 20

I am so grateful for the funding of this grant! My students love to read the Sunshine State Young Reader Jr. books, and to have them in our classroom is amazing. There are a few sets of these sought after books in the Media Center, but by the time my students go to the Media Center, the vast majority of the books are checked out! We now have our very own set in the classroom for checkout to read in class and to take home for nightly reading! After the students have completed reading a book, they can take a Reading Counts test on each of these SSYRA Jr. books to test their reading comprehension!

My class is thrilled with the books, but not as much as I am! Thank you so much for helping to foster their love of reading and to ensure that each of my third student will become life-long readers!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to foster a love of reading for all of my students. I want each and everyone of my precious 3rd graders to be lifelong readers!

What will be done with my students

I want all of my students to have each of the 15 SSYRA Junior books at their finger tips in our classroom library. The state of Florida chooses fifteen books each year to receive the Sunshine State Young Reader Award; these are wonderful books at just the right level for my students. Reading is a critical area in all disciplines and when students have interesting and fun books readily accessible to them, they become immersed in literature and reap the benefits of becoming a lifelong reader.

Benefits to my students

The benefits of having these amazing books in my classroom library is that the students can read them together and share their opinions and points of view, as well as have meaningful discussions as they collaborate with their peers. By increased reading my students' vocabulary will escalate as well as their fluency. These SSYRA Jr. books are in high demand at our Media Center and I want each of my students to have these books available to them in our classroom library for easy access to read and enjoy to encourage fluency and the lifelong love of reading!

Budget Narrative

This grant covers the cost of purchasing one classroom set of SSYRA Junior Books, (15 books) for our classroom.
