My classroom goal is to have each of my student actively engaged when I am teaching. One way to achieve this is with the on-line program Nearpod. This program can be used in the classroom or through an e-learning classroom. This program allows me to differentiate instruction for each student and give me immediate feedback on his or her understanding.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 545

This year I expanded this use of the program to include social emotional lessons as well as digital safety lesson, math and a few coding lessons.  The students were able to investigate a few virtual interactive tours as well.   It was great to see their responses to the engaging activities, at times it required follow up since I did not understand all of their thoughts on the social emotional lessons, so that was a learning experience for the teacher.

As the technology teacher Nearpod and Common Sense Media have worked together to provide interactive age appropriate lessons  for my students.  The students found these to be engaging and worth while. As always the students were 100% engaged, which is a teachers dream to have all students actively learning.

In addition to the students learning, I was able to analyze their responses later through detailed reports.  I could see which concepts the students did not understand and what I needed to reteach.

Students loved utilizing Nearpod in technology class either as a class activity or individually.  They did not have to fear answering questions, since everyone answered in a private format they were all in a safe zone, for the shy students that is essential.   Thank you for supporting this wonderfully interactive program in the classroom at Manatee Elementary School.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My classroom goal is to have each of my student actively engaged when I am teaching. One way to achieve this is with the on-line program Nearpod. This program can be used in the classroom or through an e-learning classroom. This program allows me to differentiate instruction for each student and give me immediate feedback on his or her understanding.

What will be done with my students

As I am the technology instructor I plan on utilizing lessons developed by Common Sense Media specifically for Nearpod across all grade levels in the area of Digital Safety. These lessons integrate the use of polls, quizzes, collaboration, and open ended discussion questions. As students submit their responses, I will have a quick understanding of the students’ understanding. These lessons can be followed up with a technology project to demonstrate their learning. In addition the students can interact with the lessons I have created on a topic at their own pace, the text will be read to the students by utilizing immersive reader which will allow for e-learning utilization or classroom utilization of working independently,
In addition, Nearpod can be utilized to check for understanding on other topics covered in class, such as Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Publisher or Coding. I would also use this tool to introduce research topics that are to be utilized in technology class. These topics would align with each grade levels core curriculum in the area of science and social studies.

This year I would like to purchase the premium membership to be able to utilize all of the lessons contained in NearPod. This would allow access to technology lessons, social studies, science, social emotional lessons and more.

Benefits to my students

As a statement from Claire Hirschhorn, Technology Integrator, Yavneh Academy, Paramus, NJ., " I like using digital citizenship lessons that I got from Nearpod. They allow my students to be fully engaged in a topic that is normally dry and uninteresting."

In the past I have utilized the digital citizenship lessons and the students were actively engaged, I would like to be able to continue to utilize this tool and expand is usage into other areas in my classroom.

Budget Narrative

The proposed grant would buy a one year license for my classroom to the on-line program Nearpod.
