To help my students have an organized place for their supplies, journals, books, and work folders. My second grade classroom is in a portable with limited space. The students work at tables to maximize space and collaborative learning. The students really need a space to store their things that will be easy to access. Right now they have cubbies but getting and returning supplies takes away from valuable instruction time.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 24

The seat sacks have brought organization and quick transitions to our classroom. We use tables in our class to allow for collaboration and shared learning experiences. The only downside of the tables was student storage. Before the seat sacks, the students kept all of their supplies in their cubbies on one side of the room. When the students were given their seat sacks, they took ownership of their supplies and put all of the supplies that they need easy access to in the seat sack. I gave them the responsibility of organizing their sack in a way that will help them most as a learner. They loved taking responsibility of their materials! The most significant benefit has been the time saved with this organizational system. Instead of calling each table to their cubby to retrieve the things they need, every student can grab it from their seat and are ready to learn right away. We love our seat sacks!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

To help my students have an organized place for their supplies, journals, books, and work folders. My second grade classroom is in a portable with limited space. The students work at tables to maximize space and collaborative learning. The students really need a space to store their things that will be easy to access. Right now they have cubbies but getting and returning supplies takes away from valuable instruction time.

What will be done with my students

Students will learn how to be responsible for their materials. They will learn how to organize their class work and projects. I believe my students have great potential to take ownership of their learning. One of the most important steps in that process is learning how to keep their lives organized so that they can access the information they need as they continue the learning process. This organization step will be possible with the use of a seat sack. These seat sacks are of high quality material, can be easily washed and will be used everyday for many years to come.

Benefits to my students

The most significant benefit will be time saved by having an organizational system in place for students to access necessary materials that further their learning process. By teaching them how to be responsible for their seat sack and the materials it holds, they will grow in their independence as learners.

Budget Narrative

The retail price for each seat sack is $11.95. I need a total of 25 seat sacks. That covers 1 for each current student and 5 for the guided reading table.
