Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 160

The outcome of this grant is that 160 IT Academy students now have flash drives and are able to save back-ups of their work to their own personal flash drive. Each student has already made a back-up of their files stored on the school network. These files can include certification exam practice files, web site projects, Python programming projects, and other PowerPoint presentations for projects completed in class.

Having a personal flash drive ensures students won't lose any electronic files and that they have access to the files 100% of the time. These files will continue to build over their school years creating a "digital portfolio" of computer project work that can be used for future classes, college, and beyond.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal is to have flash drives for IT Academy students so that they can store/back-up their portfolios of computer projects in one convenient location that is always accessible to them.

What will be done with my students

IT Academy students work on many computer projects throughout the year (Powerpoint presentations, coding apps, designing web pages). Students save their work on CCPS servers, however, students are unable to access these network files from home or at school when the network is down. Additionally, files on the servers are sometimes damaged or deleted so maintaining a personal backup of electronic files drives student accountability for their work.

Benefits to my students

The benefit of this grant is that 160 IT Academy students will be able to save back-ups of their work to their own personal flash drive. This ensures they won't lose any electronic files and that they have access to the files 100% of the time. These files will continue to build over their school years creating a "digital portfolio" of computer project work that can be used for future classes, college, and beyond.

Budget Narrative

160 flash drives will be purchased. A 10 pack of 16gb USB 2.0 flash drives costs $29.99 on Amazon. The total cost will be $479.84 (just under $3 per flash drive).
