Original Grant Overview

Goal

I would love to introduce a STEM program into my classroom that could help my students to grow their critical thinking and teamwork skills. By using creative outlets to solve problems, they will need to come up with innovative solutions to make it work as individuals and as a team.

What will be done with my students

They will use critical thinking skills by using STEM to solve problems. They will use STEM resources to create and design projects that will allow them to use critical skills to solve solution to problems together as a team. They will need to show the desired outcome by logging information in their STEM workbook that can be used for formative and summative assessments.

Benefits to my students

They will have hands-on activities they will allow them to be creative, use teamwork, and analytic skills to create solutions that are science, technology, engineering, art and math based. My students are EL learners, by allowing them the opportunity to use and create projects thru STEM, they will be able to use alternative ways to communicate their desired objective and it will promote thinking and teamwork.

The STEM bins and journal books from Hands 2 Mind are a great resource to start STEM bins in my classroom. They may also be used as a resource for the entire fifth grade.
