The goal is to get students excited about STEM. Not just any students, but the students at my Title I school, are from non- English speaking homes and are from a low economic home. Allowing them the opportunity to learn to code while being engaged is my goal. To have them "play" so they are engaged, but apply necessary skills. With the Lego WeDo, the students will learn cover science, math and engineering, while building with Lego's. What better way to prepare them for their future?

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 300

Thanks to your donation to technology class at Eden Park, we were able to add 2 more sets of Lego WeDO 2.0.   Coding has become a big part of technology class, and I am always looking for new and engaging ways to have the kids code.   As we now, LEGO’s are a big hit with kids (and adults).  The Lego WeDO set allows the student to build and code a creation they make with Legos, they then connect a motor that either moves , lights up, and/or creates sound.  It allows them to go step by step independently and has given them confidence in coding.  This allows them to see coding as a possibility and enjoyment and not just another assignment.  The joy the comes from watching the kids want to do something is priceless and you have made that a possibility in my class.

I apologize I currently don’t have any pictures, we were not counting on being out of school.  When return and are able to work with the kids I will upload pictures.  There are plenty on Twitter and I know we try to tag you in several so you can see all the great things that are made possible thanks to your generous donations.

Thank you again !

Goal

What will be done with my students

This set is based upon the latest science standards and was created to enhance students' curiosity and science skills. The set is delivered in a storage bin along with sorting trays, labels, a Smarthub, a Medium Motor, Motion Sensor, a Tilt Sensor, and enough building elements for two students.

The accompanying desktop and tablet supported software provides an easy-to-use programming environment and includes the WeDo 2.0 Curriculum Pack, which covers life, physical, earth, and space sciences, as well as engineering. The accompanying eLearning program helps teachers to become confident users of the WeDo 2.0 Core Set.
