Original Grant Overview
Goal
As the math and science coach at Palmetto Elementary, it is my goal to support student learning! One way to increase science proficiency will be through integrating science into reading. Being able to use read aloud books across all grade levels will continue to strengthen our science proficiency at Palmetto as well as reading proficiency.
What will be done with my students
Picture perfect trade books will be used to teach various science content lessons while engaging students in this content. Through the use of these books students will be able to not only learn science content, but practice various reading skills as well. The picture perfect books provide hands-on experiences for students as well! Being able to have hands-on experiences with our students will help support student learning and provide students with a fun engaging learning environment. Each trade book connects to our standards and aligns with our curriculum in order to make the integration process easier. Each set provides hardcover and softcover trade books for K-5. All of which can be implemented as soon as books arrive and will continue to be used year after year!
Benefits to my students
The use of the picture perfect trade books provide teachers and students in K-5 with the needed support for improving science proficiency. Through utilizing these read aloud books, science proficiency will be strengthened among all grade levels. Not only will they be reading, but also doing science through the use of these books. I believe that the biggest benefit is these materials will have an impact on the whole school! Every student will utilize these materials to learn and grow in their science and reading knowledge.
Budget Narrative
The purchase of both the 3-6 kit and the K-4 kit will provide a teacher edition as well as all needed trade books to teach lessons.
